Watch Estero's Brittenham Improve His US#1 800 At FSU Relays

Hugh Brittenham is easy to spot on the track with his trademark headband. The Estero junior will soon be easy to spot on college coaches radars around the country. He has vastly improved every week of this 2018 season. At the Ida Baker Indoor/Outdoor Challenge, he ran the 800m in 1:59.41. In the following weeks, he captured victories in the two lap event in 1:57.48 and 1:54.22. Last weekend, he added national leader to his resume with a personal best of 1:52.72 at the IMG Academy Invitational.

Friday afternoon at the FSU Relays he proved he fits right in here at the Mike Long track.  In 2017, he was third in 1:52.74 and knowing that it would take an even faster time to win one year later, he did just that. Brittenham was boxed in early and had to work his way up from fourth place through 400 meters to the front of the group. A task which was wasn't easy working behind 6'6" runner Jacob Miley of Matanzas. He turned on an extra gear in the last 250  meters to improve his US#1 time to 1:51.92.

Danny Ferro of Calvary Christian was second in 1:52.55 and Miley third in 1:52.95. All three marks were top three in the country. The seven fastest runners in the field all 1:55 or under. Talk about a race! It was so fast that Brittenham, who is going to run in a loaded 1,600m tomorrow night, said afterwards he is going to to take the time in between to go throw up, and then rest up.
