Could Atlee Sweep The 5A State Titles?

It was certainly a big weekend for the Atlee Raiders from Mechanicsville. They not only competed well as a team on both fronts but also had standout individual performances as well. They even had strong performances from both their number twos as well!

Atlee's Great American Results

The biggest of these performances was Rachel Mudd's 17:54 performance in the Girls ROC. That time placed her 9th in a stacked race and also moved her up to VA #2 this season. It also puts her atop the 5A state leaderboard this season.

One performance though is not enough to win a state title, you need depth and consistency. That is apparently exactly what Atlee has this season and we got our first glimpse of it this weekend. Their updated team rankings would not be 2nd in the 5A division behind Tuscarora. Both of these teams finished 13th/14th this weekend.

The same is true on the guys' side. Kameron Helmlinger led the way here with his 16:01 performance. He was followed closely by Ian Sellors who went 16:09. That 1-2 hit helped propel Atlee to second position in our virtual team scores.

They will face tough competition though from Albemarle and Deep Run who are both vying for the team title this season. It will certainly be a close one that is decided by the depth and consistency of the lineups and not necessarily the first place finisher.

States is just over a month away so a lot can change but one thing is for sure, Atlee is in the title hunt in both races.
