VALPARAISO, IND.
(GREENBAYPHOENIX.COM) - The Green Bay men's and women's cross country teams
kicked off their seasons Friday at the Crusader open.
The men's team finished in third place with 66 points while
the women had 129 points for a fifth place finish. On the men's side, junior Josh Clark (Gillett, Wis.) led the
charge for Green Bay with an impressive 10th place finish with a
time of 20:27.
Paul Malcore
(Green Bay, Wis.) crossed the finish line in 20:52 followed by Steve Wagner (Seymour, Wis.) in 21:08, Erik Blomsness (Winona, Minn.) in 21:18
and freshman Matt Leach (De Pere,
Wis.) in 21:24 to round out the top five for the Phoenix.
Notre Dame won the race with 16 points over host school
Valparaiso who had 61. Meanwhile Green Bay was just five points behind the
Crusaders.
The women were paced by lone senior Danielle Pozolinski (Kimberly, Wis.) who finished in 32nd
place with a time of 20:53. Annie Bley
(Egg Harbor, Wis.) was five seconds off Pozolinski, finishing with a time of
20:58 while Areanna Lakowske
(Sparta, Wis.) finished with a time of 20:59.
Rounding out the top five Phoenix runners were freshman Kristi Petasek (New Franken, Wis.) who
completed the 5K course in a time of 21:23 followed by Annie Dehmlow (Forest Lake, Minn.) who crossed the line at 22:06.
Notre Dame won first place honors with 27 points, edging out
Western Michigan who had 28.
Green Bay will have a quick turn-around as both teams will
compete at UIC Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
