Vazquez and Buchholtz Earn WIAC Honors

Josh Bucholtz and Isaac Vazquez
Madison, Wis. - The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) has announced its award winners for the 2012 men's indoor track and field season, based on voting by the league coaches.  UW-La Crosse's Isaac Vazquez was chosen the Field Performer of the Meet from the WIAC championships, while UW-Eau Claire's Thurgood Dennis received the Track Performer of the Meet honor.  UW-La Crosse's Josh Buchholtz was selected the Coach of the Year.

Vazquez earned the field plaque for the second consecutive year, becoming the second individual conference history to accomplish the feat.  UW-Stevens Point's Kyle Steiner won the award in 2006 and 2007.

Vazquez won the triple jump with a WIAC meet record distance of 50-6 1/4 this season.  He also captured his second straight long jump title with a mark of 24-3 1/2.

Dennis secured the 60-meter dash (6.90) and 200-meter dash (21.69) titles.  He also ran the anchor leg for the winning 4x400-meter relay team and was a member of the second-place 4x200-meter relay quartet.

Buchholtz received the coaching plaque for the second straight season and third time in his career after leading the Eagles to their 11th consecutive WIAC championship this season. UW-L captured four individual titles during the two-day event.

UW-La Crosse returns to action Friday, March 2 at the University of Wisconsin Qualifier starting at 5 p.m.
