Women's Track & Field Team Second at WIAC Meet

WIAC Indoor Championships - Day 1

Menomonie, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's track & field team is in second-place after the first day of competition at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Indoor Championships in UW-Stout's Johnson Fieldhouse.  The Eagles have 45.0 team points while UW-Oshkosh leads with 59.0.  UW-Whitewater is in third-place (36.0) and UW-Stout fourth (29.0) followed by UW-Stevens Point (25.0), UW-Eau Claire (20.0), UW-River Falls (15.0), UW-Platteville (4.0) and UW-Superior (1.0).

UW-L, which has won 10 of the last 12 indoor titles and a league-best 20 in school history, finished third last year.

In Friday's action, the Eagles' Kayla Ashland and Bailey Alston recorded third-place finishes.  Ashland was third in the high jump (5-4 1/4) while Alston placed third in the long jump (17-5 1/2).

UW-L's Amy Jo Garinger was fifth (5-4 1/4) and Megan Marfilius 10th (5-0 1/4) in the high jump while Rebecca Schmidt finished fourth (17-5 1/2) and Hannah Mueller eighth (16-9 3/4) in the long jump.

Bailey Sauerwein was fourth (42-10 1/4) in the shot put Friday and Erika Whitson placed sixth (11-0 1/4) in the pole vault.

On the track, UW-L's distance medley relay of Megan Stats, Annalise Falck-Pedersen, Macy Olson and Amanda Gresl placed second (12:32.65).  Individually, Rachel Schroeder was fifth (18:16.62) and Corissa Conard sixth (18:19.37) in the 5,000-meter run.

Advancing to the finals in track preliminaries included Schmidt (7.81), Mueller (7.89) and Caitlin Wippermann (7.90) in the 60-meter dash while Wippermann (25.99), Schmidt (26.15) and Jenna Halvorson (26.26) advanced to the 200-meter dash final.

Claire Elliott (57.91) and Halvorson (58.51) will compete in Saturday's 400-meter dash final while Rebecca Scheuermann (2:18.63) and Megan Knutson (2:19.90) advanced to the 800-meter run final.

Jaime Ludwigson advanced to the 60-meter hurdles final Saturday (9.30).

Action concludes Saturday at UW-Stout.
