Indianapolis, Ind. - Eleven members of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track & field team and six members of the women's track & field team have qualified for the 2012 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Indoor Championships, the NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Track & Field Committee announced Monday. The championships will be held March 9-10 in the Charles Benson Bear '30 Recreation and Athletic Center in Grinnell, Iowa. Grinnell College is serving as the host of the championships.
For each woman's individual event including the pentathlon, the top 15 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each men's individual event including the heptathlon, the top 13 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each relay event contested, the top 10 declared relay teams — one per school — were accepted into the competition.
On the men's side, seniors
Jeremiah Burish (pole vault) and
Andy Novak (shot put) will compete for UW-L. Juniors
Troy Brooks (long jump),
Andy Grossman (heptathlon),
Aric Hoeschen (400-meter dash; distance medley relay) and
Isaac Vazquez (long jump; triple jump) will also be in action for the Eagles.
Sophomores
John Cooper (weight throw),
Andrew Rohlman (distance medley relay) and
Sean Royer (distance medley relay) along with freshmen
Garrett Kerska (distance medley relay) and
Alex Koenen (60-meter dash) will also be competing.
For the UW-L women, senior
Caitlin Wippermann (4x400-meter relay); juniors
Nicole Flackey (weight throw) and
Rebecca Scheuermann (4x400-meter relay); sophomores
Kayla Ashland (high jump) and
Jenna Halvorson (4x400-meter relay) and freshman
Claire Elliott (4x400-meter relay) will compete.
