Relay Earns All-America Honors at Championships

Grinnell, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's track & field team finished in 20th-place Saturday night at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Indoor Championships in the Charles Benson Bear Recreation and Athletic Center. The championships were hosted by Grinnell College (Iowa).  The Eagles finished with 9.5 team points while Wartburg College (Iowa) captured the national title with 99.0.  UW-Oshkosh placed second with 48.0 points while Washington University (Mo.) was third with 30.0 and Methodist University (N.C.) was fourth with 26. 

Ramapo College (N.J.) and Illinois College tied for fifth (20.0 points) while Illinois Wesleyan Univesity and the University of Mount Union (Ohio) tied for seventh (18.0).  Tufts University (Mass.) was ninth (16.0) and Middlebury College (Vt.) 10th (15.0).  A total of 63 teams scored points.

In Saturday's action, the Eagles' 4x400-meter relay of Caitlin Wippermann, Jenna Halvorson, Rebecca Scheuermann and Claire Elliott placed third (3:51.71).

It is the third career indoor All-America honor for Wippermann and Scheuermann.  Wippermann was UW-L's eighth-place 4x400-meter relay in 2009 and sixth-place relay last season while Scheuermann was a member of the Eagles' sixth-place relay in 2010 and 2011.

Halvorson now has two career indoor All-America awards. She was on the sixth-place 4x400-meter relay in 2011. 

Elliott earned her first career All-America accolade.

UW-L opens its outdoor season April 6 at the Wartburg College (Iowa) Heptathlon.
