Des Moines, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track & field team completed first day action at the Drake Relays Friday at Drake Stadium. No team scores are recorded, but the Eagles did record a pair of top-six finishes Friday.
The Eagles' 4x800-meter relay of
Eric Smits, Garrett Kerska,
Jerry Kerska and
Sean Royer placed third overall with a time of 7:35.90 in the college division.
UW-L's
Andy Novak finished sixth overall in the shot put of the university/college division with a throw of 58-2.
UW-L's 4x400-meter relay of
Nick Tehan,
Terrence Thigpen,
Tyson Young and
Aric Hoeschen advanced to Saturday's final in the college division with a preliminary time of 3:14.44 Friday.
The 4x100-meter relay of
Jared Sitte,
David Sikorski, Thigpen and
Troy Brooks failed to advance to the finals in the college division after a time of 41.81 in the preliminary heats.
Action continues Saturday, April 28 at the Drake Relays. The Eagles will compete in the 4x400-meter relay final as well as the distance medley relay.
Grant Havard and
Isaac Vazquez will also compete individually Saturday with Havard in the discus throw and Vazquez in the triple jump.
UW-L will also send a squad to compete at the St. Mary's University (Minn.) Invitational Saturday, April 28.
