WIAC Outdoor Championships Heptathlon Results
Whitewater, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's track & field squad captured the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Outdoor title Saturday afternoon at UW-Whitewater's Foster Field. The Eagles finished with 185.0 points while UW-Oshkosh was second with 176.0 and UW-Eau Claire third with 129.5. It is UW-L's conference leading 27th outdoor championship in school history and fifth in the last six seasons. Head coach
Pat Healy, in his 21st season at UW-L, has now won 14 WIAC outdoor titles along with 12 indoor crowns.
UW-River Falls finished fourth (92.0 points) Saturday followed by UW-Whitewater (86.5), UW-Stout (65.0), UW-Stevens Point (58.0), UW-Platteville (55.0) and UW-Superior (11.0).
In Saturday's action, UW-L won the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays. The Eagles' 4x100-meter relay of
Jamie Ludwigson,
Caitlin Wippermann,
Claire Elliott and
Rebecca Schmidt won with a conference championship and facility record time of 47.11.
UW-L's 4x400-meter relay of
Jenna Halvorson,
Rebecca Scheuermann, Wippermann and Elliott set a school record with its winning time of 3:47.55. The time broke the record of 3:48.21 set by
Jocelyn Loe,
Kristi Marvin,
Breanna McMullen and
Lisa Mickelson in 2001. This year's time was also a WIAC Championship and facility record.
Individually, Elliott captured the 400-meter dash (55.49) while
Marissa Mahr won the 400-meter hurdles (1:02.64). Elliott set a school record in the 400-meter dash, breaking the record of 55.79 held by Mickelson in 2000. Elliott and Mahr both set facility records Saturday. Elliott also finished second in the 200-meter dash (24.84) while Wippermann was third (24.90) and Ludwigson eighth (25.69). Ludwigson placed third (14.80) in the 100-meter hurdles.
Halvorson was fifth (57.07),
Annalise Falk-Pedersen eighth (59.67) and Klein ninth (59.86) in the 400-meter dash while
Rena Kneeland finished second (1:03.54) and
Crystal Oravis fourth (1:04.90) in the 400-meter hurdles.
In the 100-meter dash, Schmidt was second (12.16), Wippermann third (12.16) and
Hannah Mueller fifth (12.40).
Scheuermann finished fifth (2:13.50) and
Megan Knutson eighth (2:17.34) in the 800-meter run while
Megan Stats placed fourth (4:43.55) and
Allison Richman ninth (4:53.12) in the 1,500-meter run.
Rachel Schroeder was seventh (18:21.74) in the 5,000-meter run.
UW-L's
Jena Weigel placed fourth (4,295 points) in the heptathlon while
Kaitlyn Francour was sixth (4,019).
In the field events Saturday,
Kayla Ashland and
Megan Marfilius tied for second (5-3) in the high jump while
Amy Jo Garinger was fourth (5-3).
Bailey Alston placed fifth (36-10 1/2), Mueller seventh (36-5 1/2) and Ludwigson eighth (36-0) in the triple jump.
The Eagles'
Bailey Sauerwein was fifth (42-5 1/4) in the shot put and
Morgan Phalen placed 10th (124-11) in the discus throw.
UW-L returns to action Friday, May 11 hosting the Ealge Open at 4 p.m.
