WIAC Championships - Individual Results
Cuba City, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's cross country squad placed second at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships Saturday afternoon at Cole Acres Golf Course. The Eagles finished with 69 team points while UW-Eau Claire won the league title with 32. UW-Oshkosh was third with 71 points.
UW-Stevens Point placed fourth (90) followed by UW-River Falls (135), UW-Whitewater (159), UW-Stout (168), UW-Platteville (256) and UW-Superior (270).
UW-L's
Natalie Powell placed sixth overall Saturday, running the 6,000-meter course in 22:21.3. The Eagles'
Rachel Schroeder was 10th (22:39.7) overall while
Corissa Conard finished 13th (22:42.8) and
Ellen Smith 19th (23:12.0).
Rebecca Zych placed 21st (23:12.5) for UW-L while
Megan Stats-Wagner was 23rd (23:14.8),
Abby Gustafson 25th (23:19.7),
Laura Mead 28th (23:22.1),
Alyssa Luker 29th (23:24.3),
Abbey Singleton 42nd (23:46.5),
Lisa Rydeen 58th (24:11.1) and
Allison Richman 72nd (24:36.4).
"The women executed the race strategy perfectly," said first-year UW-L head coach
Derek Stanley. "It was a true team effort. This is a result they can be proud of.
"I'm not sure our teams could have run much better than they did today. We can walk away from this meet knowing we put everything out there and did the best we could. I couldn't be more proud of our team's effort today."
Christy Cazzola of UW-Oshkosh won the individual title in a time of 21:16.0. A total of 105 runners competed.
UW-L returns to action Saturday, November 10 at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional in Winneconne, Wisconsin starting at noon.
