Conard Leads Women's Cross Country at NCAA III Championships

Terre Haute, Ind. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's cross country squad placed 25th at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Championships Saturday morning at LaVern Gibson Course. The Eagles finished with 563 points while Johns Hopkins University (Md.) won the national title with 158. Wartburg College (Iowa) was second with 221 points while Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College (Calif.) was third with 233. Williams College (Mass.) placed fourth (266) and UW-Eau Claire finished fifth (272).

Massachusetts Institute of Technology finished sixth (291) followed by St. Lawrence University, N.Y. (297), St. Olaf College, Minn. (309), Oberlin College, Ohio (316) and Hope College, Mich. (328) to round-out the top-10. A total of 32 teams competed.

UW-L's Corissa Conard placed 57th overall Saturday with a time of 22:25.7 on the 6,0i00-meter course. Natalie Powell was 104th (22:46.4 for the Eagles.

Rachel Schroeder finished 172nd (23:15.8) while Abby Gustafson was 221st (23:41.6), Megan Wagner Stats 225th (23:44.1), Rebecca Zych 229th (23:49.9) and Ellen Smith 248th (24:01.7).

Christy Cazzola of UW-Oshkosh won the individual national title (20:53.3). A total of 277 runners competed.
