Conard Leads Women's Cross Country at NCAA III Championships Nov 17, 2012

Terre Haute, Ind. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's cross country squad placed 25th at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Championships Saturday morning at LaVern Gibson Course. The Eagles finished with 563 points while Johns Hopkins University (Md.) won the national title with 158. Wartburg College (Iowa) was second with 221 points while Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College (Calif.) was third with 233. Williams College (Mass.) placed fourth (266) and UW-Eau Claire finished fifth (272).

Men's Cross Country Places Fourth at NCAA III Championships Nov 17, 2012

Terre Haute, Ind. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's cross country squad placed fourth at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Championships Saturday morning at LaVern Gibson Course. The Eagles finished with 190 points while North Central College (Ill.) won the national title with 167. Calvin College (Mich.) and Haverford College (Pa.) tied for second with 188 points while Washington University (Mo.) finished fifth with 226 points.

Indianapolis, Ind. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's cross country squad has earned an at-large berth for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Championships. The Eagles earned one of 16 at-large spots. The national championships are scheduled for Saturday, November 17 at LaVern Gibson Course in Terre Haute, Indiana. 

UW-L Second at NCAA Regional; Qualify for Nationals Nov 10, 2012

Winneconne, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's cross country team placed second at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Midwest Regional Saturday morning at Lake Breeze Golf Course. The Eagles finished with 114 team points while North Central College (Ill.) won the regional title with 58. UW-L and North Central both earned automatic bids to the NCAA Division III Championships scheduled for November 17.

Winneconne, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's cross country squad finished fifth at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Midwest Regional Saturday afternoon at Lake Breeze Golf Course. The Eagles totaled 162 team points to finish fifth while UW-Eau Claire won the regional title with 67. The University of Chicago (Ill.) was second with 99 points. UW-Eau Claire and Chicago (Ill.) each earned automatic bids to the NCAA Division III Championships November 17. 

Men's Cross Country Team Wins WIAC Title Oct 27, 2012

Cuba City, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's cross country team captured the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) championship Saturday afternoon at Cole Acres Golf Course.  The Eagles finished with 30 team points while UW-Eau Claire was second with 89 and UW-Platteville third with 92. It is UW-L's league-best 31st title in school history and first since 2009. 

Women's Cross Country Second at WIAC Meet Oct 27, 2012

Cuba City, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's cross country squad placed second at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships Saturday afternoon at Cole Acres Golf Course.  The Eagles finished with 69 team points while UW-Eau Claire won the league title with 32.  UW-Oshkosh was third with 71 points. 

Folster Wins Title at Luther Dual Oct 19, 2012

Decorah, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse competed in a dual at Luther College (Iowa) Friday night.  The Norse finished with 23 team points while the Eagles totaled 34.  UW-L's Carlton Folster took the individual title with a time of 21:08.1 on the four-mile course.  Three other student-athletes placed in the top-nine for the Eagles.

Decorah, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's cross country competed at Luther College (Iowa) in a dual Friday night.  The Norse won the dual with 18 team points while the Eagles finished with 42. Three UW-L student-athletes placed in the top-10 Friday, including Allison Richman who finished third overall with a time of 15:40.2 on the 4,000-meter course.  Krystina Hoey was seventh (15:51.4) for the Eagles while Alyssa Shurbert-Hetzel placed ninth (15:58.8).

West Salem, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's cross country squad captured the Jim Drews Invitational Saturday morning at the Maple Grove Country Club.  The Eagles totaled 45 team points to win the title with UW-Platteville finishing second with 111.  A total of 27 teams competed and 461 runners completed the course.

West Salem, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's cross country squad finished eighth in the annual Tori Neubauer Invitational Saturday morning at the Maple Grove Country Club. The Eagles totaled 216 team points.  A total of 28 teams competed and 433 runners completed the course.  NCAA Division I the University of Minnesota won the team title Saturday with 82 points.

No Limit Invitational Friday afternoon.  The Eagles totaled 41 team points while UW-Eau Claire was first with 40. UW-L's Hannah Heidvogel captured the individual title Friday with a time of 24:12.1 on the 6,000-meter course. A total of 68 runners competed.

UW-L Assistant Coach May Passes Away Sep 18, 2012

La Crosse, Wis. - University of Wisconsin-La Crosse assistant women's track & field coach Ashton May, 25, passed away Sunday, September 17 after a traffic accident Saturday, September 16 north of Adams, Minnesota.  She completed her second season as an assistant coach with the Eagles in 2011-12.  May earned her degree from UW-L in 2010 in elementary education and was a math and social studies teacher at Holmen (Wis.) Middle School.

The Eagles totaled 71 team points while Carleton College (Minn.) took the team title with 53 points. Luther College (Iowa) was second with 70 points. A total of 11 teams competed.

Women's Track & Field Team Earns Academic Award Jul 26, 2012

New Orleans, La. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's track & field team has been named a 2012 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III All-Academic Team.  The Eagles earned the honor after 3.38 cumulative grade point average.  A total of 137 institutions earned the award, including seven in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC).  UW-L recorded the highest cumulative grade point average in the conference.

Ten Athletes Earn USTFCCCA Scholar Award Jul 26, 2012

New Orleans, La. - Ten members of the 2012 UW-La Crosse men's track & field squad have been named to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III All-Academic Team.  A total of 226 student-athletes representing 84 institutions compose the group.  UW-L's 10 All-Academic selections were the second-most in Division III behind only Haverford College (Pa.) with 12. 

Stanley Named Cross Country Head Coach Jun 11, 2012

La Crosse, Wis. – Following the retirement of long-time head men’s cross country coach Don Fritsch, University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Director of Athletics Josh Whitman announced today organizational changes to UW-L’s cross country and track & field programs and named Derek Stanley as the new head coach of both its women’s and men’s cross country teams.  Along with serving as the head cross country coach, Stanley will be an assistant coach for the women’s and men’s track & field squads and will assist with athletic facilities.  Stanley was an assistant men’s cross country coach and assistant women’s and men’s track & field coach for the Eagles in 2011-12.

Fritsch Announces Retirement Jun 11, 2012

La Crosse, Wis. – University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men’s cross country coach Don Fritsch announced today he will retire after 14 years at the helm of the Eagles’ program, effective immediately.  Fritsch retires as one of the most successful coaches in UW-L history.  He was named UW-L’s head coach in 1998 after serving six years as an assistant coach of both the cross country and track & field programs.

Claremont, Calif. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track & field team completed third and final day action at the 2012 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Outdoor Championships Saturday night at Burns Track Complex.  The Eagles finished second overall with 47.0 points.  McMurry University (Texas) won the national title with 66.0 points.  UW-Stout was third (38.0) while UW-Oshkosh finished fourth (35.0) and North Central College (Ill.) fifth (32.3).  A total of 84 teams scored points.

Claremont, Calif. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's track & field team completed third and final day action at the 2012 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Outdoor Championships Saturday night at Burns Track Complex.  The Eagles recorded 1.0 team point to tie for 73rd-place while Wartburg College (Iowa) won the national crown with 129.0 points.  UW-Oshkosh placed second with 52.0 followed by the University of Mount Union (Ohio) in third with 34.0.  Methodist University (N.C.) was fourth with 29.0 and Williams College (Mass.) fifth with 23.0.  A total of 80 teams scored points.

Indianapolis, Ind. - The final list of qualifiers for the 2012 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships were announced Sunday, May 20.  The championships are scheduled for Thursday-Saturday, May 24-26 at Burns Track Complex in Claremont, California.  Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges will serve as host of the championships.

Women's Track & Field Team Hosts NCAA Qualifier May 17, 2012

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's track & field squad hosted a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Qualifier Thursday night at Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.  No team scores were recorded.  The Eagles won the 4x400-meter relay (3:45.64) with Jenna Halvorson, Rebecca Scheuermann, Shannon Klein and Claire Elliott.  The time of 3:45.64 broke the school record of 3:47.55 set by Halvorson, Scheuermann, Caitlin Wippermann and Elliott at the WIAC Championships May 5.

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track & field squad hosted a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Qualifier Thursday night at Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.  No team scores were recorded. The Eagles' Joe DeRosier, Troy Brooks and Andy Novak earned individual titles Thursday with DeRosier winning the 110-meter hurdles (14.69), Brooks the long jump (23-10 3/4) and Novak the shot put (59-9 3/4).

Five Athletes Win Events at Eagle Open May 11, 2012

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track & field team hosted the UW-L Eagle Open Friday night at Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.  No team scores were recorded.  The Eagles had five indviduals win events Friday, including three on the track.  Garrett Kerska won the 1,500-meter run (3:57.67), Travis Gallick the 400-meter hurdles (55.89) and Troy Brooks the 100-meter dash (10.74).  In the field events, Alex Zart took the shot put (47-11 3/4) and Tony Bilderback the triple jump (47-5).

Madison, Wis. - The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) has announced its award winners following the completion of the 2012 women’s outdoor track and field championships, based on voting by the league coaches.  UW-La Crosse freshman Claire Elliott was selected the Track Performer of the Meet from the WIAC championship while the Eagles' Pat Healy was named the WIAC Coach of the Year.

Madison, Wis. - The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) has announced its award winners following the completion of the 2012 men's outdoor track and field championships, based on voting by the league coaches.  UW-La Crosse head coach Josh Buchholtz was selected the WIAC Men's Coach of the Year.

Whitewater, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track & field squad won its 22nd consecutive Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) outdoor title Saturday at UW-Whitewater's Foster Field.  It is the Eagles' league-leading 48th outdoor championship in school history.  UW-L finished with 163 points to win this year's title while UW-Oshkosh was second with 160 and UW-Whitewate third with 135.  Head coach Josh Buchholtz, in his fourth year at UW-L, has now won four straight WIAC outdoor titles as well as four consecutive indoor crowns.

Whitewater, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's track & field squad captured the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Outdoor title Saturday afternoon at UW-Whitewater's Foster Field.  The Eagles finished with 185.0 points while UW-Oshkosh was second with 176.0 and UW-Eau Claire third with 129.5.  It is UW-L's conference leading 27th outdoor championship in school history and fifth in the last six seasons.  Head coach Pat Healy, in his 21st season at UW-L, has now won 14 WIAC outdoor titles along with 12 indoor crowns.

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's track & field squad captured the Phil Esten Challenge Friday night at Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.  The Eagles finished with 162.83 team points while UW-Oshkosh was second with 133.33.  A total of 11 teams competed in the meet.  Five individuals claimed titles Friday for UW-L.  On the track, Jamie Ludwigson won the 100-meter hurdles (14.99); Claire Elliott the 400-meter dash (56.79), Marissa Mahr the 400-meter hurdles (1:04.77) and Rebecca Scheuermann the 800-meter run (2:17.29).  In the field events, Megan Marfilius won the high jump (5-5 1/4).

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track & field squad won the Phil Esten Challenge Friday night at Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.  The Eagles finished with 222.0 team points while UW-Oshkosh was second with 170.5.  A total of nine teams competed.  Five individuals captured titles Friday for UW-L with Terrence Thigpen winning the 200-meter dash (21.52 and Mark Punzenberger the 10,000-meter run (30:57.52).  Isaac Vazquez won the long jump (24-2 1/2), Brett Davis the triple jump (46-4 1/2) and Andy Novak the shot put (58-6).

Indianapolis, Ind. - Eleven members of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track & field team and six members of the women's track & field team have qualified for the 2012 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Indoor Championships, the NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Track & Field Committee announced Monday.  The championships will be held March 9-10 in the Charles Benson Bear '30 Recreation and Athletic Center in Grinnell, Iowa.  Grinnell College is serving as the host of the championships.

Stevens Point, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track & field team competed at the Eastbay/Pointer Invitational Saturday at UW-Stevens Point.  The Eagles tied for sixth with 36 points while UW-Oshkosh won the meet with 116.5.  A total of 15 teams competed.  UW-L's Alex Koenen captured the 60-meter dash (6.90) while the distance medley relay placed second (10:01.09).  Koenen was also seventh in the 200-meter dash (22.86).

Four Athletes Win Events in Home Dual Feb 17, 2012

La Crosse, Wis. - Four members of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's track & field team won events Friday night in the Eagles' dual with Winona State University (Minn.) in the Mitchell Hall Field House.  Winona State won the dual by the score of 66-56.  Claire Elliott won the 200-meter dash (25.99) for the Eagles while Rebecca Scheuermann won the 400-meter dash (59.00).  UW-L's Kayla Ashland took the high jump (5-4 1/4) and Erika Whitson the pole vault (11-2 1/4).
