Lockhart sets course record in opener

WINCHESTER, VA -- Only a few exceptional runners have the kind of talent where they can start off their cross country seasons setting a course record. One of those kind of runners is John Handley junior Bobby Lockhart. The Foot Locker All-American Lockhart won the race uncontested as he set a new course record time of 16:19 on the challenging James Wood High School course.

His great performance wasn't enough however to bring his team a title as the James Wood boys won an invitational team title for the second week in a row as they placed 3 runners in the top 15, scoring 76 points. The host school won their own meet after winning the team title at the Chancellor Invitational last weekend. They look to be a team to reckon with in the Northwest Region.

Lockhart's younger sister, Jaime placed 8th in the girls race with a time of 21:55 as she led the girls squad to a team title as they finished 17 points ahead of second place Herndon with 103 points.

The girls individual race was also a runaway as Stonebridge's Chelsea Henderson finished 38 seconds ahead of second place with her time of 20:22. Emily Harrison of Warren County took runner-up honors with her time of 21:00.
