Registration for Distance Night in Palatine Opens Today

For Immediate Release

Registration for the 3rd Annual Distance Night in Palatine (IL) opens today, February 15, and closes on April 14. This year's meet will be held on Saturday night, April 21st at Chic Anderson Stadium in Palatine, IL at 7:00 pm. One of the premier distance track meets in the Midwest, Distance Night offers elite racing opportunities for qualified boys and girls over the 800, 1600, and 3200 meter distances. We also offer opportunities for competition in the freshmen boys 1600, the emerging girls 1600, and the distance medley relay. For further information on Meet Info, Entry Procedures, past Results, and qualifying standards, visit the meet website at http://www.distancenight.net.

Athletes can use a verifiable, competitive mark run anytime between the start of the 2017 track season and April 14, 2018, as their seed for the event. Athletes meeting the qualifying standards will then move into our "consideration pool." The final fields of 32 for each of the 800, 1600, and 3200 events for both boys and girls will be posted on Wednesday, April 18.

The meet will be broadcast live on the web via MileSplit.com, and it is also run in partnership with the Special Olympics. Gate proceeds go to benefit Special Olympics, and we also offer an 800 meter race for Special Olympics athletes between our two sessions.

Distance Night is sponsored by New Balance and Dick Pond, and all athletes competing in individual events will receive a New Balance racing singlet. To also enhance the athlete experience, we play music during all of our races and provide multiple outlets for photos and fun. The night concludes with a co-ed Costume 4 x 400 Meter Relay with awards for best costumes.

Those interested in the event should contact Meet Director Chris Quick at cquick@d211.org. We will also be providing daily updates about the event through our Twitter feed @DistNightPal.
