Luke Combs Commits to the Air Force Academy

Lapel High School's, Luke Combs announced on Tuesday his commitment to the Air Force Academy next fall via Instagram.

Despite not having any IHSAA state titles to his name, Combs kicked off his senior cross country campaign with a bang, throwing down a 14:56.17 for 5K in just his fourth race of the season. He went on to record a total of seven first place finishes throughout the season, with his lowest finish coming at Nike Cross Regionals Midwest where he placed 14th overall and the 3rd Indiana finisher.

In the state meet, Combs had his best finish this year, taking 3rd with a time of 15:38.40 and earning All-State honors for the first time in cross country. His best finish prior was 27th in 2018, just outside of all-state.

The senior holds PR's of 4:13.7 in the 1600, 1:57.95 in the 800 and 9:20.32 in the indoor 3200 as well as his blazing 14:56.17 for 5K. He will the Air Force squad that finished 9th in the Mountain Regional this year and at the highest was ranked 26th in the Nation.

He has one more season to go here in Indiana, as the track season will kick off with the Hoosier State Relays indoor series in March and then the big show starts with outdoor.
