DEKALB, Ill. - The
Green Bay men's and women's cross country teams had a good showing at the
University of Illinois' Huskie Invitational. The men placed fourth in the six team field scoring 119
points while conference rival Milwaukee won the invitational scoring 31 points.
Green Bay was led by freshman Paul Malcore (Green Bay, Wis.)
and sophomore Josh Clark (Gillett, Wis.) who finished 18th and 19th
respectively. Malcore ran the 8,000 meter course in a time of 28:17.96 while
Clark finished in 28:31.93.
Sophomore Erik Blomsness (Winona, Minn.) finished 23rd
followed by Steve Wagner (Seymour, Wis.) who was 28th and Brad
Endres (Plymouth, Wis.) 33rd to round out the top five for the
Phoenix.
On the women's side, the Phoenix finished fifth in the nine
team field scoring 129 team points. Northwestern University captured first
place honors scoring 35 points.
Senior Jolene Sell (Menasha, Wis.) led the way for the
Phoenix finishing 12th out of 105 competitors. Sell finished the
course in a time of 19:58.87. Freshman Areanna Lakowske (Sparta, Wis.) came in
21st with a time of 20:41.67 while Annie Bley (Egg Harbor, Wis.) was
29th (21:10.68) followed by Megan VanSistine (Sobieski, Wis.) and
Emily Farrell (Gillett, Wis.) who rounded out the top five for Green Bay.
The Phoenix will have some time to rest as they return to
competition at the Notre Dame Invitational Oct. 2.
