MILFORD, Mich. - The Green Bay men's and women's cross country teams competed in the 31st annual men's and 24th annual women's Horizon League Championships hosted by Detroit on Saturday.
Both the Green Bay men's and women's teams finished in eighth place with 253 and 196 team points respectively.
On the men's side Paul Malcore (Green Bay, Wis.) led the way for the Phoenix finishing the 8K in 28:36 followed by Erik Blomsness (Winona, Minn.) in 28:40 and Brad Endres (Plymouth, Wis.) in 28:48. Stephen Wagner (Seymour, Wis.) finished in 50th place with a time of 28:49 while Andrew Geiwitz (Onalaska, Wis.) finished in 61st place with a time of 29:59 to round out the top five for the Phoenix.
For the 12th straight season the Butler men's team won the team championship by tying and all-time record for lowest team score (15) capturing all top five positions.
On the women's side Jolene Sell (Menasha, Wis.) led the way for Green Bay finishing the 5k course in a time of 20:03 taking 19th place overall followed by Areanna Lakowske (Sparta, Wis.) in 28th place with a time of 20:38 and Annie Bley (Egg Harbor, Wis.) in 37th place with a time of 21:00. Emily Farrell (Gillett, Wis.) finished with a time of 21:35 and Josey Bellin (Fremont, Wis.) rounded out the top five for the Phoenix with a time of 22:10.
Like the men, the Butler women won the team championship trophy totaling 21 team points. It was there seventh Horizon League Championship in eight years.
Green Bay will compete in the NCAA Regional race in Bloomington, Ind. on Saturday, Nov. 14 at 11 a.m.
