Cross Country Teams Wrap up First Weekend of Competition with UIC Opener

PALOS HEIGHTS, ILL. (GREENBAYPHOENIX.com) - The Green Bay men's and women's cross country teams wrapped up their first weekend of competition with both teams posting 1-3 records at the UIC home opener.

In the dual meet format, the women beat Chicago State University by scoring a perfect 15 points over the Cougars. Host school UIC, in-state conference rival Milwaukee and St. Xavier were all faster than Green Bay in the race.

Overall on the women's side, junior Annie Bley (Egg Harbor, Wis.) paced the way for the Phoenix finishing the two-mile race in 12th place with a time of 12:30,. Teammates Danielle Pozolinski (Kimberly, Wis.) and Areanna Lakowske (Sparta, Wis.) were close behind finishing in 12:34 and 12:35 respectively.

Freshman Kristi Petasek (New Franken, Wis.) continues to contribute as she completed the course in a time of 12:50 while Annie Dehmlow (Forest Lake, Minn.) finished in 13:14 rounding out the top-five finishers for Green Bay.

 

The men were also better than Chicago State University as the Phoenix scored 20 points compared to the Cougars 43. St. Xavier and conference rivals UIC and UW-Milwaukee outran Green Bay in the dual format.

For the second day in a row of competition, Josh Clark (Gillett, Wis.) led the way for Green Bay with a time of 21:39, finishing in 17th place. Paul Malcore (Green Bay, Wis.) finished the 4 mile course in 22:02 followed closely by teammate Stephen Wagner (Seymour, Wis.) in 22:13.

Junior Erik Blomsness (Winona, Minn.) ran a 5:30 mile pace to finish in a time of 22:29 while Evan Wachter (Plymouth, Wis.) completed the course in 23:04, rounding out Green Bay's top five finishers.

 

The Phoenix will have two weeks off before it competes in its only in-state meet of the year at the Falcon Invite in Mequon, Wis. The meet will take place on the Concordia Campus Saturday, Sept. 18 with the men's 8K race beginning at 11 a.m. followed by the women's 6K race at noon.
