Wisconsin Track & Field: March 30th-April 5th Breakthroughs And Top Performances
Wisconsin athletes opened April both indoors and out, with a strong mix of early-season leaders, event doubles, and several notable personal bests across the state.
Sprints
The boys sprint group was led by Kylor Loomis (Waterford Union), who put together one of the top all-around performances of the week with wins in the 200m (22.74) and 400m (50.83).
In the 100m, Cooper Leffler (Boscobel) posted the top mark from the week at 11.53, while Luke Breuer (River Ridge) won the 200m at River Ridge in 23.75. Loomis' range stood out, but so did a handful of smaller-school efforts throughout the week.
One of the biggest sprint breakthroughs came from Grayson Arn (Brodhead/Juda), who dropped from 11.26 to 10.93 in the 100m and also improved from 23.11 to 22.87 in the 200m.
On the girls side, Ellie Gajewski (Union Grove) led the 200m in 27.90, while Brielle Fishnick (Cassville/Potosi) ran 13.03 to top the 100m. Fishnick's win came from one of the most competitive meets of the week, while freshman Grace Eastlick (Cassville/Potosi) followed closely in 13.34.
Another major sprint breakthrough came from Khloe Olson (Merrill), who dropped from 8.15 to 7.54 in the 55m at the Bluejay Indoor Track Invitational. She now ranks No. 1 among Wisconsin freshmen in the event and also leaped to a long jump PR of 14-5.5.
Hurdles
The hurdle events featured several of the cleaner event sweeps of the week.
For the boys, Adam Venner (De Soto) won both hurdle races at River Ridge, taking the 110m hurdles in 16.84 and the 300m hurdles in 48.46.
On the girls side, Paisley Egge (De Soto) led the way with a 16.04 win in the 100m hurdles and also added a 28.22 runner-up finish in the flat 200m. Teammates Brynn Venner (De Soto) (52.28) and Makenna Gilman (De Soto) (52.77) went 1-2 in the 300m hurdles, giving De Soto one of the strongest hurdle groups in the state this week.
Distance
The boys distance races were highlighted by a strong middle-distance and distance showing at the South East Wisconsin Championship.
In the 800m, Sam Collier (Waterford Union) led the way in 2:00.55, while Austin Jarmuz (University School of Milwaukee) and Beckett Newman (University School of Milwaukee) both dipped under 2:06. Jarmuz later returned to win the 1600m in 4:30.10, just ahead of Collier's 4:31.44.
Birk Newman (Nicolet) also posted a solid 4:33.26 in the 1600m, while Ryan Pringle (Nicolet) won the 3200m in 10:39.87.
For the girls, Anastasia Marich (University School of Milwaukee) led the 800m in 2:29.85, while Cate Kohli (University School of Milwaukee) and Ainsley Polston (University School of Milwaukee) ran 5:16.16 and 5:16.85 to lead the 1600m.
Relays
For the boys, Nicolet led the 4x200m in 1:35.86, while Franklin posted the top 4x400m (3:42.97) and 4x800m (9:11.75) marks. At River Ridge, River Ridge won the 4x100m in 47.79.
On the girls side, Nicolet led the 4x200m in 1:53.59, University School of Milwaukee won the 4x400m in 4:27.20, and Union Grove topped the 4x800m in 10:38.30. Cassville/Potosi also won the girls 4x100m in 55.15.
Throws
One of the biggest breakthroughs in Wisconsin last week came from Isaiah Laack (West Salem), who threw a 55-1.5 PR in the shot put at Stout Elite. That moved the junior to No. 2 among Wisconsin juniors.
Among outdoor marks from last week, Ian Harris (Nicolet) threw the shot 47-10.5, while Keagan Kolden (De Soto) won the discus at River Ridge with 118-7.
On the girls side, Lena Isbell (De Soto) won shot put with a 36-9 toss, while Addison Rounds (Boscobel) led the discus at 100-1. Freshman Grace Eastlick (Cassville/Potosi) also had a strong week in the throws, including a 97-5 discus mark.
Jumps
For the boys, Jaylin Dudley (Greendale/Martin Luther) won the long jump at 21-0, while Mikaiden Hanson (Racine Park) placed second at 20-1. Hanson won the triple jump in 42-10.
Ren Bowen (River Ridge) topped the boys pole vault at 13-0, while Jonah Seymour (Greendale/Martin Luther) led the high jump at 5-8.
On the girls side, Brielle Fishnick (Cassville/Potosi) stood out with wins in the 100m, long jump (15-7.5), and triple jump (33-1), making her one of the top all-around performers in Wisconsin last week.
Elsewhere, Zoe Pomeroy (Waterford Union) cleared 5-2 to lead the high jump, and Autumn Struebing (Oak Creek) won the pole vault at 10-6.
Khloe Olson's 14-5.5 long jump PR also added to her breakout week.
