PEORIA, Ill.
(GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay men's and women's cross country teams
wrapped up their regular season competition with the Bradley Classic Friday
night held at Newman Golf Course.
20 teams competed in the women's 6K race including Horizon
League rivals UIC, Milwaukee and Loyola. Green Bay scored 593 points with
Areanna Lakowske (Sparta, Wis.) pacing the way in 111th place,
crossing the line in 24:21 with an average mile pace of 6:32.
Junior Annie Bley (Sevastopol, Wis.) was 116th
with an average pace of 6:39, finishing in 24:46. Bley was two seconds ahead of
teammate Danielle Pozolinski (Kimberly, Wis.) in 24:48.
Leah Farley (Algoma, Wis.) completed the 6K course in a time
of 25:19 followed by freshman Kristi Petasek (New Franken, Wis.) in 25:29 to
round out the top five scorers for the Phoenix.
Milwaukee's Elise Sigg won the race in a time of 21:05,
running an average mile pace of 5:40. Iowa State had the lowest team score with
69 points, claiming first place honors.
Loyola, UIC and Milwaukee also competed against the Phoenix
in the 20-team men's race. Green Bay scored 678 points with Stephen Wagner
(Seyomour, Wis.) pacing the way with an average mile of 5:29, finishing in
27:12.
Sophomore Paul Malcore (Luxemberg-Casco, Wis.) was six
seconds behind Wagner, finishing in 27:18 (5:30 pace). Erik Blomsness (Winona,
Minn.) crossed the line in 27:38 (5:34 pace).
Joshua Clark (Gillett, Wis.) completed the 8K course in
27:46 while Evan Wachter (Plymouth, Wis.) finished in 28:00, rounding out the
scoring for the Phoenix.
DePaul's Matthew Graham won the race in 23:37, with an average
pace of 4:45. Iowa won the event with 67 team points.
Green Bay will compete in the Horizon League Championships
Saturday, Oct. 30 held at Lincoln Park in Chicago, Ill. This year's championships
are being hosted by Loyola and will kick off at 11 a.m. with the women's 5K
race followed by the men's 8K race at noon.
