Eleven Runners Turn in Fastest Times of Season at League Championships

CHICAGO, Ill. - The men's and women's cross country teams wrapped up its regular season competition Saturday with the Horizon League Championships held at Lincoln Park in Chicago, Ill. The men's and women's teams had a total of 11 runners turn in their fastest times of the season.

Green Bay had two women finish in the top 50, running their fastest 5K times of the season. Sophomore Areanna Lakowske (Sparta, Wis.) paced the way for the Phoenix with a time of 19:43. Lakowske finished in 35th place in the field of 100.Junior Annie Bley (Egg Harbor, Wis.) also turned in her fastest time of the season finishing in 45th place with a time of 20:07.

Freshman Kristi Petasek (New Franken, Wis.) had a solid performance for her first Horizon League Championship. Petasek finished in 60th place with a time of 20:37, also her fastest time of the season.

Rounding out the scoring for Green Bay was senior Danielle Pozolinski (Appleton, Wis.) running in her final league race and Leah Farley (Algoma, Wis.). Pozolinski turned in her fastest time of the season (20:39), finishing in 61st place while Farley (21:42) was the 72nd runner to cross the line.

As a team, Green Bay scored 256 points while Butler won its seventh consecutive title with 18 points.

On the men's side, seven runners turned in their best times for the Phoenix. Junior Josh Clark (Gillett, Wis.) led the charge for Green Bay finishing in 56th place with a time of 27:15. Clark was one second ahead of teammate Paul Malcore (Green Bay, Wis.) who finished in 27:16. Both Clark's and Malcore's times were their fastest of the season in an 8K race.

Steve Wagner (Seymour, Wis.) also turned in his fastest time of the season (27:36), finishing in 66th place. Erik Blomsness (Winona, Minn.) finished in 69th place, crossing the line in 27:50. Rounding out the scoring for Green Bay was freshman Matt Leach (De Pere, Wis.) who finished the course with a time of 28:24. On Leach's heels was senior Brad Endres (Plymouth, Wis.) who ran his final league championship race in a time of 28:25.

Green Bay scored 261 team points in the competition while Butler captured its 12th consecutive title with 22 points.

Both Phoenix squads will compete in the NCAA District Regional race on Saturday, Nov. 13 at Oakland University Golf Course in Oakland, Mich.
