In a dominant display of running, Brookfield Central boys and girls teams won today's sectional at Greenfield Park. The 7th-ranked Lancer boys team put an 18-point spread between 12th-ranked Waukesha South to win the sectional, hosted by Nathan Hale. Led by standout Jr., Carl Hirsch, who won with a time of 15:57, BC finished with 4 guys ahead of Waukesha South's 3rd man, putting enough distance between South's tightly-packed 3rd, 4th, and 5th man.
The girl's race, however, was much closer. Sensational sophomore, Elizabeth Flatley led the entire race, winning by ten seconds over Waukesha North Sr. Sammi Donovan. Both girls ran strong races but Flatley increased her lead over the last mile, winning with a time of 14:41. 2nd and 3rd place were much closer, but Donovan outsprinted Kettle Moraine Sr. Taylor Vinhal in the chute to finish ahead by two seconds.
While the Lancer girls took first, only four points separated them from Waukesha West. The Wolverines, who came into today's meet ranked 16th in the state, put up a solid fight, led by Jr. MaKenna Stelpflug.
Congratulations are also in order to those runers who qualified individually for next weekend's State Meet in Wisconsin Rapids:
