Ames, Iowa/Winona, Minn./River Falls, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track & field team competed at three meets Friday. No team scores were recorded at the Iowa State University Classic, the Saint Mary's University (Minn.) Cardinal Open or the UW-River Falls Brooks Classic.
The two-day Iowa State Classic and UW-River Falls Brooks Classic continues Saturday, February 11. In UW-L's only action of the day Friday at Iowa State,
Sean Royer placed 10th in the 800-meter run (1:53.63). At the Brooks Classic,
Andy Grossman is in third-place (2,510 points) after the first day of competition in the heptathlon.
At the Saint Mary's Open, nine student-athletes earned first-place finishes for the Eagles. On the track,
Jamie Bottcher won the 400-meter dash (51.68);
Eric Smits the 800-meter run (1:55.82);
Andrew Rohlman the 3,000-meter run (8:36.83) and
Adam Nichols the 55-meter hurdles (7.90).
In the field events,
Travis Gallick took the high jump (5-11 1/4);
Jeremiah Burish the pole vault (15-6 1/4);
Troy Brooks the long jump (23-3 1/4);
Daniel Petkau the triple jump (44-0 3/4) and
Alex Zart the shot put (51-1 3/4).
Other top finishes on the track included Brooks second (6.55),
Alex Koenen third (6.56) and
Jared Sitte fourth (6.58) in the 55-meter dash while
Clark Lundquist was second (23.31),
Christopher Eberle third (23.34) and
Alex Jelich fourth (23.47) in the 200-meter dash.
Christian Wendland was second (51.75) with
Mitchell Reiser and Eberle finishing in a tie for third (52.22) in the 400-meter dash.
Bruce Schmitz was second (1:56.22) in the 800-meter run while
Andrew Heinritz finished second (8:38.71),
Nathan Routhier third (8:39.50) and
David Stilin fourth (8:39.51) in the 3,000-meter run. The Eagles'
Joe DeRosier was second in the 55-meter hurdles (7.91).
In the field events,
Jeffrey Hill finished second (14-6 1/4),
Gary Trkula third (14-6 1/4) and
Bryan Klister fourth (14-0 1/2) in the pole vault.
Christopher Haase finished second (22-5 1/4),
Brett Davis third (20-11 1/4) and Petkau fourth (20-3 3/4) in the long jump while Davis also placed second (43-4 1/2) in the triple jump.
Adam Poellinger placed second (49-11 3/4),
John Cooper thirrd (46-10 3/4) and
Ross Von Glahn fourth (43-0 1/4) in the shot put while
Grant Havard was third (51-6 1/4) and Von Glahn fourth (49-7 1/4) in the weight throw.
