Where did you continue your running career after high school?

The University of Wisconsin

What was the biggest adjustment you had to make to compete at the college level?

The intensity of workouts and races was (and still is) quite an adjustment. Workouts got a little faster and farther, and every meet felt like the state competition. The change was difficult for me at first but has helped make me a better runner, physically and mentally.

Is there anything you can tell high school athletes to better prepare them for the college experience?

Do the little things. You hear that a lot in our sport but it’s true. Make the effort to go to the weight room, do strides, jump in an icebath, ect. Those things will not only improve your running but will help keep injuries at bay as well.

What memories from competing in high school stand out the most?

The great times I had with my team, both at practice/meets and outside of running. We shared in so many amazing memories from the excitement of state meets to the funny stories of a typical day at practice.

What do you miss most about running in high school?
My teammates. Although a lot of us are in college now and don’t get to see each other as much as we would like, they are still my best friends. When we get together, it is like nothing has changed.

What piece of coaching or advice that someone gave you has been the biggest help?

Recovery is key. As runners, we often feel like going out for an easy run or taking an occasional day off puts us behind our competition. Conversely, recovery allows your body to rebuild itself to be faster and stronger while preventing any injuries that may pop up.
