Women's Cross Country Team Finishes Fifth at Griak

Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's cross country squad finished fifth at the University of Minnesota Roy Griak Invitational Saturday morninng at Les Bolstad Golf Course. The Eagles totaled 143 team points while UW-Eau Claire won the title with 95 points. A total of 29 teams competed.

Wartburg College, Iowa placed second (108 points) with St. Olaf College, Minn. third (116) and Lewis & Clark College, Ore. fourth (135). UW-L was fifth (143) with UW-Stevens Point (200), the University of St. Thomas, Minn. (213), The College of St. Benedict, Minn. (249), Bridgewater College, Va. (291) and Nebraska Wesleyan University (325) rounding out the top-10.

Natalie Powell led UW-L with a 17th-place at 23:23.75 on the 6,000-meter course. Corissa Conard was 19th (23:25.60) overall while Megan Wagner-Stats was 33rd (24:00.95), Abby Gustafson 35th (24:02.60), Laura Mead 39th (24:07.05), Rachel Schroeder 42nd (24:10.65) and Rebecca Zych 55th (24:27.80).

Other finishers for the Eagles included Abbey Singleton 73rd (24:38.60), Ellen Smith 87th (24:50.40), Lisa Rydeen 91st (24:55.00), Alyssa Luker 120th (25:21.05), Kristin Lillie 138th (25:33.80), Cassie Pratt 157th (25:52.00) and Emily Anderson 220th (26:40.00).

"We had a little trouble with keeping our pack together today," said UW-L head coach Derek Stanley. "The women are still learning from each other an how to race together. We came out and did what we needed to do today and I'm proud of our effort."

Linda Keller of the University of Minnesota Morris won the individual title (21:48.85). A total of 408 runners competed.

UW-L returns to action Saturday, October 13 hosting the Tori Neubauer Invitational at Maple Grove Golf Course in West Salem starting at noon.
