Track and Field: Redbirds' Swiekatowski third in state meet Jun 6, 2013

LA CROSSE — De Pere High School freshman Kylie Swiekatowski led a slew of qualifiers from the city schools in the WIAA Division 1 track and field state meet last week. Swiekatowski soared to third place in the girls pole vault at University of Wisconsin-La Crosse’s Veterans Memorial Stadium. She was the top finisher among six girls who had a final clearance of 11 feet, 6 inches. Ashwaubenon senior Alex Flucke, the two-time defending state champion in the event, also cleared 11-6 and finished fifth. (via www.greenbaypressgazette.com)

WIAA state track boys roundup: Ozaukee's Werner soars to second in high jump Jun 2, 2013

LA CROSSE — When most track and field athletes finish competing, they put on their warmups, be it athletic shorts, sweatpants and sweatshirts, and so on. When Ozaukee senior Josh Werner finished his time on the Division 3 high jump at the WIAA State Track and Field Championships Saturday, he donned faded blue jeans with a leather belt, and his camouflage cap. LA CROSSE — Bonnie Draxler didn’t take in her usual haul of gold at the WIAA state track and field meet Saturday.
