The second competition weekend of the season brought beautiful early fall race weather and some fast times. Catch up on the highlights from this weekend's race coverage!
Madison Edgewood had a pair of wins in the boys and girls races from seniors Leo Richardson (16:40.55) and Grace Nemeth (23:31.25). Madison Edgewood also had the team win for the girls. On the boys side, Deerfield Cambridge took the team win, with three runners finishing in the second through fourth positions.
Homestead Highlander Girls Invite
Several teams from last weekend's scrimmage returned to Tendick Park for two sessions of races. Homestead senior Leane Willemse crushed the overall field with a strong early-season performance of 18:12, finishing ahead of Shorewood's Annika Elliott, who lead the meet's second session. Shorewood had the team win, even with top runner Bella Lozier out for the meet.
Homestead Highlander Boys Invite
Teams were back on the course Saturday morning for the boys sessions of the invite. Drew Stephens of University School of Milwaukee (16:20), and Owen Bosley of Homestead (16:27) each finished first in their respective race sessions. Brookfield East came out on top with the team win, marking their second consecutive victory of the season.
Iowa-Grant's own Nick Connolly won the boys race for the Invitational, finishing in 17:48.60. Brookwood came out on top in the team standings. On the girls side, Southwestern/Cuba City's Kayci Martensen pulled away from the pack to finish over 2:30 ahead of the next runner, who happened to be her sister, Hanna Martensen. Despite the 1-2 finish for Southwestern/Cuba City, Albany High School pulled ahead for the team win.
Other Notable Performances:
- Freedom boys and girls teams swept the team titles in their home invite. Freedom also had individual winners in Jack Reiter (17:02) and Gwen Hintz (20:06)
- Oconomowoc's Kylie Finger (19:02) and Waukesha North's Patrick Wills (16:05.7) had individual wins at the Arrowhead Tri.
