Competition at the Mondovi Middle School Meet #1 produced a wave of personal bests for Wisconsin middle schoolers. Let's check in and see how this slate of results impacts the state of play and meet some of the athletes making a splash.
Sprints
Liam Carlson (Wonewoc-Center) led the boys 100m in 12.83, backing up his strong week that also included a major PR and big improvement in the long jump. Behind him, athletes like Liam Miller (New Lisbon) and Marshall Klinkner (Cashton) were right in the mix.
Henry Starks (Viroqua) dropped over a second in the 100m (16.99), one of the biggest improvements in the event.
In the 200m, Devin Hill (Kickapoo/La Farge) not only won in 29.39 but also highlighted the week with a massive 5+ second PR drop-making this both a top performance and one of the biggest breakthroughs.
On the girls side, Zoe Mlsna (Cashton) took the 200m in 29.18, while Ava Alton (De Soto) led the 100m in 14.36.
Marilyn Wildman (Brookwood) and Airanna Hoesly (Olson) posted big drops in the 200m, signaling major early-season progress.
Middle Distance & Distance
Clayton Wolfe (Wonewoc-Center) dominated the boys side, winning the 400m (57.92) and 800m (2:28.82), showing nice range across both events.
Henry Amberson (Brookwood) delivered one of the top moments of the week, cutting nearly 25 seconds in the 800m to run 2:38.19.
In the 1600m, Cletus Klein (Cashton) won in 5:34.45, just ahead of Keaton Reetz (Bangor), who also showed strong improvement trends.
Silas Zahm (Viroqua) dropped over 45 seconds in the 1600m, one of the largest improvements across any event.
On the girls side, Tessa Laufenberg (Cashton) won the 800m in 2:50.36.
Laufenberg also cut nearly 27 seconds from her PR, making it one of the most significant distance breakthroughs of the week. Madison Geier (Cashton) and Aurelia DiPadova (Viroqua) also made big strides in the 1600m.
Hurdles
Brennan Fradette (North Crawford) won the boys 100m hurdles in 17.85, continuing a strong all-around week that also included a huge gain in the triple jump.
Braxton Schlict (Kickapoo/La Farge) dropped nearly four seconds in the hurdles, marking one of the biggest event-specific improvements.
On the girls side, Avery Hall (Viroqua) led the finals in 19.90.
Avery Jaekel (De Soto) and Ariel Knoble (North Crawford) both posted major PR drops, highlighting rapid development in the event.
Throws
Cooper Thayer (Olson) won the shot put at 35-8, while Owen Mericle (Necedah) led discus at 100-8.
Grant Muellenberg (Brookwood) improved his discus by 20 feet, one of the biggest gains recorded.
Cash Olsen (Kickapoo/La Farge) also stood out, placing in discus (92-6) while adding major improvements in both throws.
On the girls side, Braelynn Leisso (Brookwood) won the shot put, and Celia Venner (De Soto) shined with both a top discus mark (66-7) and a runner-up finish in shot put.
Gretchen Risch (Bangor) and Molly Lexa (Bangor) led the biggest PR gains in shot put and discus, respectively.
Horizontal Jumps
Marshall Klinkner (Cashton) won the long jump at 17-1, while Liam Miller (New Lisbon) led the triple jump at 37-0.
Brennan Fradette (North Crawford) delivered one of the biggest improvements of the week, adding over 6 feet in the triple jump.
Liam Carlson (Wonewoc-Center) also stood out, placing second in the long jump (15-10.5) while improving nearly three feet from his previous best.
On the girls side, Reese Wrobel (De Soto) won the long jump, and Aubrey White Murphy (Kickapoo/La Farge) took the triple jump (32-0.5).
Madison Geier (Cashton) added nearly 3 feet in the long jump, highlighting her versatility across events.
High Jump
Caleb Rogers (North Crawford) led the boys at 5-3, with Mason Franklin (Viroqua) placing third at 4-10 after improving his PR.
Aaron McCollam (Hillsboro) improved by a full foot, one of the biggest vertical gains of the week.
On the girls side, Zoe Mlsna (Cashton) cleared 4-8 to win, while multiple athletes, including Lucy Kottke (Viroqua) and Aubrey White Murphy (Kickapoo/La Farge), cleared 4-6.
Kottke also improved her PR while competing across multiple events, underscoring a strong all-around performance.
