A Look Back on '22 WI XC & Top 10 Girls Returning in '23

Early in the year, preview some of Wisconsin's best returning talent to the 2023 cross country season!



1. Sara Mlodik | D. C. Everest

Mlodik returns for a senior season as Wisconsin's defending D1 state title holder. Her season-best time comes from an impressive post-season run, during which she placed 10th at the Nike Heartland Regional Championships. On the track, she had a pair of state podium finishes, placing runner-up in the 1600m and third in the 3200m.

2. Faith Wehrman | New Berlin Eisenhower

In the 2022 season, Wehrman won 10 of 11 non-national cross country races, including the D2 WIAA State Championships. On the track, she placed 4th in the 3200m and 11th in the 1600m at state.

3. Kate Schmoll | West De Pere

Schmoll closed a season of top two finishes with third place at the 2022 D1 WIAA State Cross Country Championships. On the track, she placed 20th in the 1600m at state.

5. Kalli Knowles | Plymouth

7. Ellie Robinson | Dodgeville/Mineral Point

Robinson finished third at last year's D2 state cross country championships and holds the fifth-fastest returning time into the 2023 season. She closed her most recent track season with a pair of eighth-place finishes in the 1600m and 3200m.

8. Abigail Sadler | Mount Horeb

Mount Horeb's Abigail Sadler placed sixth at last year's D2 state championships and holds the fourth-fastest returning time into the 2023 cross country season. On the track, she earned a D2 state title in the 800m and placed third in the 1600m. At New Balance Nationals, Sadler finished 26th in the mile.

9. Charlize-Trinity McKenzie | Cedarburg

Despite a limited cross country season in 2022, Cedarburg's Charlize-Trinity McKenzie found distance success in her freshman year. On the track, she finished runner-up in the D1 state 800m competition and went on to earn an AAU Junior Olympic national title in the 15-16 year-old division.

10. Ella Anschutz | Muskego
