Spencer Alf had himself a day at the Dr. Conrad Worrill Track and Field Center during the 4th Annual Morolake Akinosun Elite Invitational.
The junior classman from McFarland delivered a pair of distance event runner-up finishes, both of which etched his name at the top of the state's leaderboards.
First, in the 800, contesting Section 4, Alf eclipsed the 2-minute barrier for the first time in his career (indoors) with a 1:58.86 for second through the line.
Outdoors, he's gone sub-2 on several occasions with a PR mark of 1:58.68.
Next up in his 1600, Alf engaged in one of the most exciting finishes of the day where a 3-man sprint to the line ensued over the last 60 meters.
Alf narrowly missed capturing the meet title with his 4:36.38 second place showing to Christopher Angeles' winning number of 4:36.35.
Hirsi Hirsi was leading rounding the final curve of the oval, but ended up settling for third at 4:36.70.
For Alf, the Akinosun Invite marked his '24 debut following a high quality '23 XC campaign, where he took 27th at the WIAA Division 2 State Championships and put forth a solid effort at RunningLane, as he mixed it up with a deep field of national talent.
