Lakeside Lutheran Boys Dominate for the Team Victory

In a dominant effort, the Lakeside Lutheran boys absolutely dominated the Division 2 boys team race, scoring 81 points, more than double that of the runner up, Somerset. The Lakeside Lutheran boys got contributions all over from the sprints, to the distance races, relays and even the field events. Overall, they got points contributions from ten different boys. 

Their main points scorer's were Karsten Grundahl with 28 points Ben Krauklis with 26 overall points, 22 points from Tyler Dahlie, and 20 points from Cameron Weiland. Lakeside won three events in the 4x200m and 4x400m relays, and the 800m title from Grundahl. Their main contributions were from runner-up finishes where they scored 40 points from five runner-up finishes.

Lazarescu Wouldn't Be Denied

Lydia Lazarescu would not be denied the Division 1 sprint titles, as she racked up individual titles in the 100m and 200m. In the 100m, Lazarescu finished with a time of 12.05, just narrowly ahead of Charley Brinks with a time of 12.07. In the 200m, it was a bit more comfortable of a margin, with Lazarescu finishing with a time of 24.58 seconds, 0.19 seconds ahead of the runner-up. This capped off a season is which Lazarescu went undefeated in all finals in both events.

Putz Narrowly Completes Distance Double

After winning the 3200m title on day one of the state championships, Onalaska junior Manny Putz put the finishing touches on the distance double in a close 1600m race on day two. First, on day one, Putz won the 3200m title with a time of 9:08.75, a 2.46 second victory and his third-fastest 3200m time of all-time. On day two, the margin of victory was only 0.34 seconds in the 1600m that saw Putz win with a time of 4:12.03 over Nico Castellanos with a time of 4:12.37 and Remy Strichartz with a time of 4:12.52.

Uddin Family Racks Up the Titles

It was an Uddin family takeover at the Division 2 State Championships, with Elletta Uddin and Addison Uddin combining to win three of the five titles they competed for, and finishing 3rd in both of the other races. Elletta won both the 100m hurdles and 300m hurdles, with new PRs of 14.19 in the 100m hurdles and 43.27 in the 300m hurdles. This marks the second straight year that Elletta won both D2 hurdles titles at state. Her new PRs now rank her 11th all-time in the 100m hurdles and 5th in the 300m hurdles. Her time of 14.19 in the 100m hurdles, is a new class record in Wisconsin and her 300m hurdles time of 43.27 ranks her #2 all-time for her class in Wisconsin.

In the Divison 2 boys 400m race, it was Addison who prevailed with a time of 47.73 seconds, winning by 0.88 seconds. This was Addisons first state title and continued his ascent in the event at state that started with a 13th place finish in 2021, a 4th place finish in 2022, and a 3rd place finish in 2023 before his big win this year. His time of 47.73 now ranks as the 10th fastest 400m time in state history.

Arrowhead Boys Produce Historic Relay Results

The Arrowhead boys won both the 4x100m and 4x200m relays, produccing top-ten times all-time in Wisconsin with both results. In the both relays, it was the team of Presley Bencz, Ryan Heiman, Jackson Schulz, and Harper Hughes producing the historic results. In the 4x100m relay, they finished with a time of 41.71, winning by 0.03 seconds. This ranks as the 9th fastest 4x100m time in Wisconsin state history. In the 4x200m, they bested themselves with a time of 1:26.73, which ranks #3 all-time. 

With that relay team consisting of sophomores in Bencz, Heiman, and Hughes, one must put the state records in both relays on watch the next two years.

Chippewa Falls and Janesville Parker Race All-Time 4x400m Relay

The Chippewa Falls and Janesville Parker boys raced what in what is quite simply the fastest 4x400m relay race in state history with the Chippewa boys running the #2 time all-time, with janesville just behind them with the #3 time all-time. The Chippewa boys finished with a time of 3:16.29, with Janesville just behind them at 3:16.73. With these blistering performances, the list of 4x400m relay times in Wisconsin under 3:17 went from one, up to three.

McKenzie Runs WI #3 800m Time

At the rate that Charlize-Trinity McKenzie is going, Roisin Willis might have to keep an eye on her Wisconsin state record in the 800m. At this years state championships, McKenzie won the girls 800m title with a new Wisconsin #3 time of 2:08.20. This was also a new WI class record for sophomore girls, beating the previous record of 2:09.22 by Camille Davre set in 2015.
