Wisconsin Outdoors: April 27th-May 3rd Top Performers and Breakthroughs
Wisconsin athletes continued to post elite marks across invitationals, conference competition, and distance showcases during the April 27-May 3 stretch. Meets like Hale Distance Night, the Paul Frank Invitational, DC Everest Boys Invitational, and Classic 8 Girls Relays produced some of the strongest statewide performances of the season, while several emerging athletes continued impressive breakthrough campaigns.
Sprints & Hurdles
The sprint events were highlighted by a huge performance from Adam McKaig (D. C. Everest), who ran 10.61 to win the 100 meters at the DC Everest Boys Invitational. The performance stood as the fastest boys 100-meter time in Wisconsin last week among more than 200 statewide competitors. McKaig also added a runner-up finish in the 200 meters in 22.63.
On the girls side, Elletta Uddin (Osceola) delivered one of the state's most versatile performances of the week across the hurdles and sprint events. Uddin won the 100-meter hurdles in 14.00 at MBC vs BRC before returning to capture the 300-meter hurdles in 43.29 and adding a 25.60 performance in the 200 meters at the Osceola Invitational.
Several athletes also continued strong breakthrough spring campaigns. Samuel Feliz (Oconto Falls) continued his rapid progression in the hurdles; dropping from 18.74 to 16.24 in the 110-meter hurdles at the North Eastern Conference Pentangular. He later added another personal best in the triple jump.
Another major sprint breakthrough came from Ezra Abram (Lakeside Lutheran), who improved nearly three seconds in the 200 meters with a 22.49 victory at the Lodi Triple Dual. The junior now ranks among the top Wisconsin juniors in the event.
Freshman Dylan Johnson (Sun Prairie) also continued his strong emergence after lowering his 100-meter best from 12.30 to 11.49 at the Cardinal JV Classic.
Another notable improvement came from Evelyn Mueller (La Crosse Logan), who lowered her 200-meter best from 29.23 to 26.66 at the Knights of Columbus Invitational to continue her upward trajectory this spring.
Distance
The distance events were led by Jemekhi Tally (Homestead), who ran a state-leading 1:51.85 to win the 800 meters at Hale Distance Night. Tally pulled away from a loaded 46-runner field while producing the fastest 800-meter time in Wisconsin this season.
Another standout boys distance performance came from Grady Lenn (De Pere), who clocked 4:06.22 to win the 1600 meters at the Paul Frank Invitational. That was the fastest 1600-meter time statewide last week.
On the girls side, Lauren McCalla (Menomonie) delivered one of Wisconsin's strongest doubles of the week at MBC vs BRC. McCalla won the 1600 meters in 4:47.55 before returning to capture the 800 meters in 2:13.02, leading the state in both events for the week.
Freshman standout Karstin McCabe (Whitefish Bay) also continued her excellent spring campaign by winning the 3200 meters at Hale Distance Night in 10:20.76. The mark ranked as the top freshman 3200-meter performance in Wisconsin last week and moved her to #1 among Wisconsin freshmen.
Several developing distance athletes also continued breakthrough campaigns. Ally Miller (Monroe) dropped nearly two minutes in the 3200 meters earlier this spring with a 12:15.97 performance at the Rock Valley Quad, establishing herself among Wisconsin's top freshman distance runners.
Jumps
The jumps were highlighted by an elite vault from Elise Schroeder (Arrowhead), who cleared 13-0 to win the pole vault at the Classic 8 Girls Relays. The mark stood as the top pole vault clearance in Wisconsin last week and further solidified her standing among the state's premier pole-vaulters.
Additional improvement also came from Samuel Feliz (Oconto Falls), who added a triple jump personal best of 34-1.25 during his strong all-around week.
Throws
Wisconsin's throws group delivered another outstanding week, led by Chris Marcell (Marathon), who swept both throwing events at the DC Everest Boys Invitational. Marcell launched a massive 212-0 discus throw before adding a 69-1 victory in the shot put, producing the top marks statewide in both events while competing against deep fields exceeding 40 athletes.
Another major boys throws performance came from Luka Ivancevic (Homestead), who won the shot put at the Dan Benson Invitational with a throw of 60-9. He later added a runner-up finish in the discus at 157-0 to complete a strong double.
On the girls side, Emma Severson (Neenah) dominated both throwing events at the Neenah Rocket Invite. Severson threw 49-11 in the shot put and 155-8 in the discus, producing the top girls throws marks in Wisconsin last week while continuing to lead the sophomore rankings in both events.
A major breakthrough also came from Wyatt Buenning (Waupaca), who improved nearly 25 feet in the discus with a 149-5 throw at the North Eastern Conference Pentangular. The sophomore now ranks among Wisconsin's top underclassmen throwers.
