JOLIET, Ill. — Tessa Thurs continued her remarkable spring at the Senior All-Star Spotlight meet at St. Francis University this past weekend. The meet features senior athletes from Wisconsin, Iowa and Illinois. Thurs, who won the 100 and 300 hurdles, respectively, and the triple jump, won the 400 hurdles at the all-star meet in 1 minute, 5.0 seconds, won the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 2 1/4 inches, and took third in the triple jump (35-10 1/2) and 100 hurdles (16.02). For good measure, Thurs, who is headed for the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in the fall, teamed with some fellow Wisconsin athletes to finish second in the 1600 relay. In another outstanding performance, Wausau West’s Sarah Poirier, headed to Marquette, dominated the 3200-meter field, winning in 11:25.94, more than 40 seconds ahead of second place.
