As they have on so many other occasions when hosting this annual event, the University of Notre Dame men's and women's cross country teams captured their respective team titles at the 34th annual National Catholic Championships, held this afternoon (Friday, Sept. 19) at the nine-hole Notre Dame Golf Course.

(Jacob Thomson leads at 3K - thanks to JT) The Junior US Men, led by Craig Novak, placed second in Scotland, while the Junior Women came in third.

Team USA heads to Great Edinburgh International Cross Country. Following their individual wins in December at the USA Track & Field National Club Cross Country Championships, Jacob Riley and Mattie Suver headline the members of Team USA while Dennis Barker and Dena Evans will lead the teams as coaches for the 2013 Great Edinburgh International Cross Country. New WIAA State Meet Records » The Edgar girls set a state record in the 400 and 1,600 relays, breaking both marks that the program set in 2010. » University Lake School senior Molly Seidel won the Division 3 girls 3,200 for the fourth consecutive year and did so in a division record time of 10:21.93 » The Neenah girls 3,200 relay team of Clarie Knaus, Jennifer Parker, Jessica Parker and Aliscon Parker set a state Division 1 record with a time of 9:00.42. The previous mark of 9:03.38 was held by Marinette since 1994. » Two-time state champion Alex Flucke of Ashwaubenon and Arrowhead's Cami Gilson, the Division runner-up, both tied the state pole vault record with a height of 12-6. Ashwaubenon's Ashley Alme also reached that height in 2003. » Algoma's senior Zach Blahnik won the Division 3 boys discus with a throw of 175-6, and his sister, Kennedy, a sophomore, set a mark in winning the girls shot put in 47-11.0.
