Wisconsin Outdoors: April 6th- April 12th Top Performers and Breakthroughs
Wisconsin athletes continued building momentum during the April 6-12 window, with strong early-season marks across all disciplines. From sprint depth to distance breakthroughs and standout field performances, this past week continued to show the continued development of Wisconsin's outdoor athletes.
Sprints
Grady Lenn (De Pere) delivered what was unquestionably the top distance performance of the week, running 8:39.62 in the 3200 meters at the Arcadia Invitational. His performance lowered his previous best of 8:52.75 from last year, set a school record, and established himself as the leading 3200m runner in the state.
Tyler Hancock (De Pere) led the 110m hurdles (14.56) and placed among the top long jumpers. The 300m hurdles were tightly contested, with Jacob Mathys (Green Bay Preble) (40.61), Keaton Dauk (Pulaski) (40.66), and Hancock (40.68) separated by less than a tenth this past week.
Still indoors, Cooper Baregi (D. C. Everest) posted a major breakthrough, improving to 8.63 in the 60m hurdles.
On the girls side, Macy Price (Sussex Hamilton) led the 100m hurdles (15.18), while Ellie Davel (St. Mary Central) improved to 15.40. Elletta Uddin (Osceola) led the 300m hurdles in 44.66.
Relays
River Falls led the boys 4x100m (43.27), while Sussex Hamilton took the 4x200m (1:31.02). New Richmond (3:31.43) posted the fastest time last week in the 4x400m.
In longer relays, Tomah ran 8:34.78 to lead the 4x800m.
For the girls, Sun Prairie East (50.49) and Denmark (1:47.50) led the sprint relays. East Troy led the 4x400m in 3:55.97, with multiple teams under 4:00, while Cochrane-Fountain City led the 4x800m (9:53.72).
Jumps
Alex VanHelvoirt (Wrightstown) highlighted the field events, clearing 6-6 in the high jump for a school record, and added a 20-9 long jump PR.
Jay Stetzer (Alma Center Lincoln) led the long jump (21-10.5), while Noah Metro (River Falls) posted the best triple jump (44-11.25). Maximus Davis (Green Bay Preble) cleared 15-0 in the pole vault.
On the girls side, Celia Gentile (Neenah) jumped 19-3 to lead the long jump. Elliana Shank (Brodhead/Juda) delivered a major breakthrough at 18-7.5, setting a school record and improving her hurdle PR at the same meet.
Nyajuacni Riak (Madison La Follette) cleared 5-4 in the high jump, while Lera Black (Ashwaubenon) led the pole vault in 11-6.
Throws
Madden Crubel (Fennimore) produced one of the top marks of the week, throwing 194-6 in the discus to move to No. 4 in the state and set a school record.
In the shot put, Brent Weeden (New Glarus) led at 54-6.5. Notably, Alexander Rozum (Denmark) added a breakthrough at 52-6 in the shot, improving from his previous best of 49-10. The senior won his event, set a school record, then followed it up with a significant improvement in the discus as well.
For the girls, Emma Severson (Neenah) swept both events, winning the shot put (46-11.5) and discus (150-5). Haley Mathison (Cadott) and Kayla Landerud (McFarland) also showed strong consistency.
Overview
The week showcased balanced strength across events, with particularly tight sprint and relay fields. With strong contributions from both underclassmen and upperclassmen, Wisconsin continues to build depth across all disciplines early in the season.
